With ILO’s support through the ACTION/Portugal project, the Course on Social Protection Statistics kicks-off
A course on social protection statistics kicked off today in Praia, Cabo Verde, bringing together members of the Interinstitutional Working Groups on Social Protection Statistics (GITEPS) from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
This course takes place from September 25th to 29th and is organized by the ILO and the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITC-ILO) through the ACTION/Portugal project on "Strengthening Social Protection Systems in PALOP and Timor-Leste."
Over five days, members of the various GITEPS will have the opportunity to share experiences regarding the development of their respective national statistical bulletins on social protection, identify common challenges and solutions, contextualize the strategic relevance of the work carried out by GITEPS globally, including in the context of monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to social protection and the ILO's global databases, and explore new comprehensive indicators for social protection and employment.
Additionally, the course includes various group work dynamics, such as clinics dedicated to supporting each country's delegations in designing, developing, and preparing future bulletins.
The Mozambican delegation consists of eight members representing the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MITSS), the Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Action (MGCAS), the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Social Action (INAS), the National Social Security Institute (INSS), the National Social Security Fund (INPS), and the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Through ACTION/Portugal, the ILO and ITC-ILO are supporting a new generation of national social protection statistical bulletins. Mozambique is currently finalizing the 5th edition of its statistical bulletin, scheduled to be launched during the National Social Protection Week in 2023.
