UN Women - ILO Policy Tool

Assessing the employment situation in five countries and promoting a gender responsive structural transformation

A consolidated report on lessons learned and policy insights

The country studies undertaken under the UN Women – ILO Joint Programme examined the gendered structure of the economies of Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Morocco, and Nepal with the aim of gaining a better understanding of the gender implications of an economic crisis such as the COVID 19 pandemic and related policy responses.

The studies involved a combination of analytical approaches and evidence-gathering methodologies and provided many useful insights for facilitating the identification of policy strategies to promote gender-equitable paths of structural transformation.

The way forward is to promote measures for improving working conditions in sectors and occupations which disproportionately employ women, coupled with increasing women workers’ access to more dynamic, high-productivity sectors.
