This report highlights why the multi-faceted dimensions of informality demand an integrated approach to formalization, outlines the nature of an integrated approach to employment formalization, reviews the extent that countries in Asia and the Pacific are applying integrated approaches to formalization, and provides examples and an action-oriented outline for advancing integrated approaches to formalization in the region.

Severance pay in Indonesia: Evidence from a small-scale survey during the onset of COVID-19 pandemic

This survey paper was initially prepared as part of the ILO’s technical contributions in October 2020. The survey team collected 426 samples from waged employees between March and September 2020 and analyzed respondents’ history of employment termination and furlough.

Manual - Mainstreaming gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) and the prevention and response to sexual violence in vocational education and training institutions

The ILO Skills for Prosperity Programme worked on establishing new regulations in Indonesian TVET institutions to address sexual harassment and violence in higher education for the very first time. The work was completed with four state polytechnics, establishing a senior taskforce responsible, working with social partners to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) that integrated investigations, prosecutions and victim support with local services; and publishing and socialising the guidelines within the institution.

This paper was initially prepared and submitted to the Just Energy Transition Working Group in May 2023 as part of the ILO’s technical contributions. It aims to facilitate discussions on how social protection could facilitate the just energy transition in Indonesia.

The Alignment of Indonesian laws, policies, and their enforcement with the ILO international labour standards on forced labour: A situation and gap analysis

This gap analysis documents the extent to which the requirements of PO29 are represented in the Government of Indonesia’s existing laws, norms and practices, with special reference to Indonesia’s catch fisheries sector and local fishers, who are one of the groups identified to be at risk of forced labour in Indonesia.
